FRIED POTATOES AND ONIONS

Fried potatoes and onions make for a classic and comforting dish. Here’s a simple recipe for you:

Ingredients:

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil or clarified butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: garlic powder, paprika, or your favorite herbs and spices for additional flavor

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Potatoes and Onions:
    • Peel and thinly slice the potatoes and onion. You can use a mandoline slicer for even slices.
  2. Heat Oil:
    • In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil or clarified butter over medium heat.
  3. Fry Potatoes:
    • Carefully add the sliced potatoes to the hot oil. Ensure that they are spread out evenly in the pan.
    • Let the potatoes cook without stirring for a few minutes to allow them to brown on one side.
    • Once the bottom side is golden brown, flip the potatoes and continue cooking until the other side is also golden brown and the potatoes are cooked through. This may take about 10-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of your slices.
  4. Add Onions:
    • Add the thinly sliced onions to the pan with the potatoes.
    • Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and translucent.
  5. Season:
    • Season the fried potatoes and onions with salt, pepper, and any additional herbs or spices you prefer. Garlic powder, paprika, or dried herbs like thyme or rosemary work well.
  6. Serve:
    • Once the potatoes are crispy and the onions are caramelized, remove the skillet from the heat.
  7. Optional Additions:
    • You can customize this dish by adding extras like bell peppers, mushrooms, or even a sprinkle of your favorite cheese.
  8. Garnish and Enjoy:
    • Garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or chives if desired.
    • Serve the fried potatoes and onions as a delicious side dish with your favorite protein or as a standalone comfort food.

This simple recipe yields a flavorful and satisfying dish that is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a hearty side for any meal. Adjust the seasonings and add-ins to suit your taste preferences.
